Creating online quizzes has become a necessary component of online education. While the responsibility of creating and posting quizzes typically falls on the instructor, it is crucial to understand the process of designing quiz questions, utilizing a technology platform to administer the quiz, and evaluating the effectiveness of this approach for future use. In this assignment, I will discuss my experience creating quiz questions and using the SurveyMonkey technology platform, as well as provide an analysis of whether I would utilize this technology in future educational settings.
As someone who has instructed and performed the Rapid Strep Test for many years, I approached the task of creating quiz questions with a focus on practical knowledge rather than in-depth scientific understanding. Since the test is a fixed skill with a well-established process, I aimed to design questions that focused on the “how-to” rather than the underlying scientific principles (DiSantis, Ayoob, & Williams, 2015). I consciously avoided including negative options in the multiple-choice questions, as they require reverse thinking rather than straightforward knowledge (DiSantis, Ayoob, & Williams, 2015). Moreover, I ensured that each question had a single, clearly correct answer to minimize ambiguity for the students (Focuszone Media, Inc, 2019).Lastly, I maintained consistent lengths for all the multiple-choice answer options to prevent any potential clues that may distinguish one answer from another (Focuszone Media, Inc, 2019).
For the administration of the quiz, I selected SurveyMonkey, an online platform designed for obtaining feedback from various sources, including students (SurveyMonkey, 2015). Although I had never used a technology platform for this purpose before, I found that SurveyMonkey had streamlined the process, making it relatively easy to create an online quiz. Despite initial apprehension, the user-friendly interface and intuitive design of SurveyMonkey dispelled my concerns and made it likely that I would use this platform again, whether in an educational or professional setting.
The increasing prevalence of online education has accelerated the shift towards online quizzing. While the fundamental method of creating quiz questions has remained relatively unchanged, the traditional process of distributing paper quizzes and using pencils has now transitioned to an online environment. This shift not only improves accessibility and convenience but also allows for more efficient tracking and analysis of student progress and performance.
In conclusion, the growth of online education necessitates the use of online quizzes, which places the responsibility of quiz creation on the instructor. The process of designing quiz questions should focus on practical knowledge and clarity of correct answers, while the utilization of technology platforms like SurveyMonkey simplifies the administration and analysis of quizzes. My experience with SurveyMonkey enabled me to create an online quiz efficiently, and I would consider using this technology in future educational endeavors. Overall, online quizzing has emerged as an essential component of online education, facilitating the assessment of student knowledge and enhancing the learning experience.
