HCA 620 Week 3 Discussion 2
Search the GCU Library on the following topic: Change Model. Which change model do you think will work best for your evidence-based capstone project? Explain.
Answer:
In my opinion, the best change model for my evidence-based capstone project would be the Transtheoretical Model. This model is a good fit for my project because it is a comprehensive approach to helping people make behavioral changes that are both healthy and long-lasting.
The TTM has five stages: precontemplation, contemplation, preparation, action, and maintenance. The TTM helps people identify which stage they’re at with regard to their behavior change goals and then gives them strategies for moving forward in each stage. For example, if someone is in the contemplation stage—meaning they have recognized that they need to make a change but haven’t yet made any concrete plans—the TTM would help them come up with concrete steps toward making those changes.
I also think that the change model that will work best for my evidence-based capstone project is the Prochaska and DiClemente Model. This model has been proven to be a very effective way to help people make behavioral changes in their lives, which is what I am hoping to do with my project. In order to help people make these changes, it is important to understand what motivates them, what barriers they may encounter, and how best to overcome those barriers. The Prochaska and DiClemente Model does this by breaking down the process of change into five stages, each of which has certain characteristics that will be helpful in moving the person towards their goal.
The first stage of this model is pre-contemplation. This stage occurs when someone is not ready or willing to make a change in their behavior or lifestyle. In order to move them into this stage, they must have a reason/motivation for making the change (such as feeling bad about their current state). They must also be able to see themselves as starting over with a clean slate after making the change (so that they are not being held back by past failures). If both conditions are met, then they should be able to move on into contemplation.
