Title: Analysis of Perceived Stress Measures
The purpose of this journal entry is to analyze the change in perceived stress measures over the course of the semester. The Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) and the Student Stress Scale (SSS) were utilized as the primary measures for evaluating stress levels. This analysis aims to determine whether there have been any significant changes in stress levels since the initial assessment in Week 1, and to identify possible attributions for any observed changes. Additionally, a plan will be formulated to address the identified stress levels.
Perceived Stress Scale:
The PSS, a commonly used measure of stress, was completed once again to assess students’ perceived stress levels. The score obtained in Week 1 will be compared with the current score to determine any changes.
Upon comparing the scores from Week 1 and the present assessment, it is evident that there has been an increase in perceived stress. In Week 1, the initial score was lower than the current score, indicating a higher stress level at present. The Week 1 score was recorded as 29, while the current score stands at 66 (refer to attachment).
Attribution of Change:
There are several factors that may contribute to the increase in perceived stress levels. Firstly, a lower grade than expected (29) might have had a significant impact. This experience could have resulted from inadequate study habits, poor time management, and working extra hours and weekends, leading to a lack of preparation for the exam. This additional workload and poor time management could have contributed to heightened stress levels.
Another contributing factor may be the increased workload at school (37). As the semester progressed, the workload intensified due to the completion of two classes, along with numerous assignments, tests, and clinical practices. These demands placed a considerable burden on the individual, leading to elevated stress levels.
Plan for Addressing Stress Levels:
To address the identified increase in stress levels, a comprehensive plan must be established. Mindfulness techniques have been proven effective in reducing stress, anxiety, and promoting overall well-being. Therefore, incorporating mindfulness exercises in daily routines could assist in managing stress and improving overall mental health.
Additionally, time management skills need to be improved to allow for better organization and efficiency. By developing a schedule for study, work, and other responsibilities, individuals can create a balance that reduces stress and improves productivity.
Furthermore, seeking support from peers, professors, or counseling services can provide valuable guidance and assistance in addressing stress levels. Engaging in open communication and seeking help when needed can alleviate stress and promote a healthier mental state.
In conclusion, the analysis of perceived stress measures indicates that stress levels have increased since the initial assessment in Week 1. Factors such as lower grades than expected and an increased workload at school contribute significantly to this increase. To address these elevated stress levels, a comprehensive plan has been formulated, including the incorporation of mindfulness techniques, improvement of time management skills, and seeking support. By implementing these strategies, individuals can effectively manage stress and improve their overall well-being.
