Nursing informatics can have a significant part in this process and can help to improve outcomes by improving processes, identifying at-risk patients, and enhancing efficiency. Project Proposal

Objective: The objective of this project is to implement a real-time surveillance system that will enable early identification of at-risk patients, thus improving patient outcomes and enhancing patient care efficiency.

Rationale: Early identification of at-risk patients is critical for preventing adverse events, minimizing healthcare costs, and improving patient outcomes. A real-time surveillance system incorporating nursing informatics can help in the proactive identification of at-risk patients, allowing healthcare providers to intervene promptly and effectively. By implementing such a system, our healthcare organization can enhance patient safety, reduce healthcare costs, and improve patient care efficiency.


1. System Design and Development: A multi-disciplinary team consisting of nurse informaticists, healthcare IT specialists, and clinical staff will be formed to design and develop the real-time surveillance system. This team will collaborate to identify the specific data elements that are essential for predicting patient risk and develop algorithms to identify at-risk patients based on these data elements. The system will be designed to integrate with existing healthcare information systems, ensuring seamless data exchange and accessibility.

2. Data Integration: To ensure the reliability and accuracy of the real-time surveillance system, integration with various data sources within the healthcare organization will be necessary. This will include electronic health records, vital signs monitoring devices, laboratory systems, and other relevant databases.
