From your experience in the health care industry, what is the difference between leadership and management? How can an advanced registered nurse both lead well and provide management? Think about interactions with patients, team members, daily tasks, and responsibilities as you formulate your response.

 

Answer:

In the health care industry, leadership and management are two very different things. The first thing to understand is that although leadership and management may be related, they are not interchangeable. Leadership is a set of behaviors that includes communication, vision, and decision-making skills. Management is focused on planning, organizing workflows, delegating tasks, and making sure all are being completed.

An advanced registered nurse can both lead well and provide management in many ways. For example, when interacting with patients or team members, an advanced registered nurse can use effective communication skills to convey their vision for the patient’s care in a way that will meet the patient’s needs while also allowing them to feel heard. They can also plan out an order of care for their team members so that everyone knows exactly what they need to do and when they need to do it in order to provide quality care for their patients.

One of the first things that comes to mind when I think about leadership and management is how they’re different. Leadership is more about setting goals, inspiring others to achieve them, and making decisions based on what’s best for your team or organization—while management is more about actually getting things done. For example, if you’re a nurse who’s in charge of your floor, you might be the one who decides that everyone needs to be in at 5:00 PM every day so they can get some rest before their next shift starts. You’ll also be responsible for assigning tasks to people and helping them stay on track with their work. If someone falls behind or makes mistakes, though, it’s up to you as manager to let them know what went wrong and how they can fix it so it doesn’t happen again.

In a way, both leadership and management require advanced registered nurses (ARNs) like myself to provide excellent service through communication with patients, team members, daily tasks, and responsibilities. But while it’s important for me as an ARN to lead well by giving feedback when necessary or encouraging others when it’s needed most—it’s also vital for me as an ARN who also has managerial duties at times

I think the difference between leadership and management is that you can be a leader without being a manager, but you can’t be a manager without being a leader.

In my opinion, nursing is such an important profession because it combines both of these things. Nurses are leaders who work with patients and their families to help them achieve their goals, but they’re also managers who have to make sure that all the tasks necessary for good patient care are done on time and efficiently.

A great nurse will be able to lead well by being able to communicate effectively and compassionately with patients, families, and other team members; they’ll also be able to manage their time well so they can accomplish everything they need to do each day.
